THE IDEAL STREET is part of an initiative of neighbourhood improvement and beautification benefiting the community of Dergano, a neighbourhood located in the north of the Metropolitan City of Milan. The initiative was spearheaded by citizen-driven, cultural association Via Dolce Via and received the support and funds from Municipio 9, the local authority that governs a n area to which Dergano belongs.
Specifically, Via Dolce Via gave a group of 16 artists the task of painting the many giant plant-pots that sit on the neighbourhood’s streets, responding to one common theme: ‘If The Street Were Home’.

THE IDEAL STREET is inspired by the notion that if the street were home, we would live in a place without boundaries. The home would be everyone’s and therefore, importantly, everyone would have a home. In this great home everything would be shared as though in a big family.
If a street could become home, it would certainly be an ideal street.

Placed somewhere in a city that references in its imagery Renaissance’s Ideal City, THE IDEAL STREET represents a moment in which all come together, thanks to this home without walls. A community dinner, a feast, where all are invited, where everyone, leaning out of their windows, sits and dines at a communal table.
